Penn State Coaches Quotes
Ed DeChellis

Q: When Talor and Taran were on the court at the same time it looked like Talor was bringing it up the majority of the possessions was that the plan?
A: Talor is a point guard Frazier is a point guard and we're letting those guys play the point. It's very hard to have a freshman learn two spots and Taran is trying to learn the off guard spot and that's his focus to run the floor and run the two guard spot, not to run the team.

Q: Frazier looked like he was putting a lot of energy in the second half, a couple steals some fast breaks, is that the kind of performance you are looking for from him?
A: Yeah, he's an athletic kid but right now he is playing in one gear though, super speed. He needs to pick his moments and then his speed is much more, you can't go 100 mph at all times, it's okay to gear back. We want him to be active I thought he had active hands, second half he had a really dumb foul right in front of our bench and that is the kind of stuff he has to clean up, but he's very active, he can make free throws, he can make other guys better, he's just trying to settle in he had four fouls, I don't think any of them were good fouls he turned it over then reached in and fouled the guy. That is the kind of stuff were going to work on but he can affect the game and that's what we're trying to let him do.

PSU Player Quotes
Taran Buie, Tim Frazier, Billy Oliver

Q: Were you nervous for your first game?
Taran: The first half, I was really excited and tried to rush a little bit. Coach just told me to let the game come to me. I was expecting to be more excited than nervous. I think it turned into nerves once I got out there.

Q: Why was it a slow start in the first half?
Billy: A lot of mixing and matching, coach is trying to change tempos, combinations of players. Once everyone calmed down and settled in, we were okay.

Tim: At the same, it was the first time we got to play someone else in front of fans. I think everyone had a little jitter in them. It takes a slow start, but we led on from the second half and we will take that into Lehigh.

Q. Was Ed looking to bench experience at the end of the game?
Taran: I think coach is just trying to find different combinations. I think we were playing well together and coach just wanted to keep us out there.

Billy: For a lot of our guys, this is their first time playing. The only way for guys to get rid of fears and nervousness is to get out there and play.

Q: What are your expectations for a game like this, what are you guys trying to accomplish?
Tim: Of course we want to win, but it's just the first game. Its just a stepping stone each game ahead, you want to jell as a team. We want to work on the things that we have been working on in practice, offensive and defensive sets, and getting used to the chemistry of other teams. You want to go through each game and learn from each game.

Q: What was Ed's teaching point at halftime and after the game? What specific things did he want you to work on?
Taran: He just wanted us to slow down our offense and run some more sets, eliminate the turnovers. We did not have an offensive flow and that was a big difference in the second half . He wanted us to stop taking the quick shot.

Q: Talor had 12 of his 16 points in the first half. It was a little more equal in the second half. Is that what you guys wanted to do or was it just getting more comfortable?
Tim: I do not think it was anything with point distribution in the first half, Talor just came out hot. He's a senior and that's what seniors do and he knows the ropes. Us young guys are still trying to learn the ropes and get in a flow. In the second half, everyone was more comfortable and the offense came.

Q; Evaluate where you guys are at as a team?
Billy: We have a much better look at ourselves. Obviously we need to play better than that when we step up the competition the next couple of weeks. A lot of it will be smoothing out the wrinkles and getting more practice. It was our second time playing against another team and I think that had something to do with it. We hope to improve and be a little better than today.

Q: How does it feel to be in a close game and how will it help you throughout the season? Even though it is an exhibition? Is that in your minds?
Taran: It is a good feel for what we will see in the Big Ten with a lot of good teams and a lot of close games. There will be some calls that go the other way and create adversity. Coach tries to create adversity in practice, whether it be bad calls or missed calls. You have to will yourself to play through it and play for the win. It helps that the game doesn't count, so you can play a little more. I'm not thinking about who we are playing, I'm just thinking about winning.
