Director of Basketball Operations

With a trunk full of experience and a well honed perspective, Eldon Price is in his fourth season as Penn State's Director of Basketball Operations. A collegiate basketball coach for nearly 40 years, Price's relationship with head coach Ed DeChellis goes back more than 20 years when he coached DeChellis at Penn State's Beaver campus in the early 1980's.

A Penn State alumnus, Price graduated from the University in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in health, physical education, recreation and dance and went on to earn a master's degree in higher education from Penn State in 1967.

He returned to Penn State after 15 seasons as the head women's coach at Rider University (1989-2004) where he guided the program to a record 162 victories and earned selection as the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year on several occasions.

Prior to Price's tenure at Rider, he began the department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and was an assistant professor in physical education at Penn State's Beaver campus from 1967-86. Price coached the men's and women's basketball teams as well as the golf, soccer, softball and baseball squads during his 19 years at the Beaver campus.

From 1986-89, Price served as an assistant coach for the Rider men's basketball team and the head coach for the golf team. He was promoted to the head coach of the women's program in 1989 where he spent the next 15 years. His teams excelled on the floor and in the classroom as they earned the No. 1 team grade-point average in the nation among NCAA Division 1 teams one season and regularly placed among the top teams in the nation academically.

Price started his coaching career at Horicon High School in New Jersey leading the boy's and girl's basketball teams and the baseball and softball teams from 1961-63. He taught history, English, science and physical education at the high school.

From 1963-67 he coached the men's basketball team, track and soccer at Northern Potter High School in Ulysses, Pa.

Eldon and his wife, Kathryn, have three sons, Tim, Thomas and Todd.
