The rugged 6-6, 220-pound Banks was rated a three star recruit by Scout.com and 247Sports and brings a Big Ten ready body to the Nittany Lion roster. A strong and multi-skilled combo guard who had experience playing point guard on the high school level, he will use his perimeter skills and excellent passing as part of Penn State's frontcourt rotation. His high basketball IQ, strong build and versatility should afford him a good chance to earn playing time in his first season.

"Payton is 6-6, big, thick, athletic, high IQ, and can play multiple positions. He literally can play one through four. He's got a great handle and a terrific mid-range jumper. He'll dunk on you if he has to and he will post you up. Versatility is how I would describe Payton Banks."
