Former Nittany Lion Nicholas Colella is in his third year as the director of on-campus recruiting and his fourth season as a member of the Penn State staff.
Colella is responsible for the coordination of official and unofficial prospective student-athlete visits. He also plays an integral role with men's basketball summer camps, assists with the coordination of community and camp appearances, and works closely with marketing on the Nittany Lions' social media presence.
Colella wrapped up a playing career worthy of a movie script in 2013. He spent two years of his collegiate career at the NCAA Div. III Penn State-Behrend campus (Erie, Pa.) before matriculating to the main campus, spending two weeks as practice player with the Lady Lions and then joining the NCAA Div. I Penn State team through the open walk-on tryout process in 2010.
A member of Penn State's 2011 NCAA Tournament team, the left-hander worked his way into a significant role starting six-straight Big Ten games in 2011-12 and then earning a role as a team captain the following year. Chambers rewarded Colella with a scholarship for his senior year.
In his senior campaign, he became a major part of the Nittany Lions' core lineup starting 14 games and playing in all 31. In the final nonconference game of the 2012-13 season, Colella connected on five three-pointers for 15 points. He scored nine points in Penn State's senior night victory over Michigan. The win over the fourth-ranked Wolverines is the highest-ever in the Bryce Jordan Center.
Following his collegiate playing career, he served two seasons as a graduate manager before assuming his current role.
Colella holds two degrees from Penn State, a bachelor's in kinesiology (2013) and a master's in educational leadership (2015).
