Two Nittany Lions Named to Texas Collegiate League All-Star Team
Starting pitcher Mark Wyner (Norwalk, Conn.) was also named a TCL All-Star. Cavagnaro is on a tear this summer, as he enters the All-Star game as the leading hitter in the TCL. Cavagnaro is hitting .430 through the first 25 games of the season and leads the second-place hitter in the league by over 50 points. Cavagnaro has 40 hits in 93 at bats and has also scored 26 runs while drawing 14 walks and striking out just 10 times. He has 11 extra base hits (5 2B, 5 3B, 1 HR) and has helped lead the McKinney Marshalls to an 18-7 record and a second place standing in the Tris Speaker Division. He also leads the league in hits and triples. For his efforts, he was named the TCL Player of the Month for June, during which he hit .464 (32-for-69) and drove in 13 runs. Also making it onto the All-Star roster was Wyner, who has pitched very well for the Plano Blue Sox. Despite just a 1-3 record, Wyner has allowed only 14 earned runs in 35.1 innings of work, which is second on the team. He has one complete game in five starts and has struck out 37 while walking just 13. Opposing hitters are batting just .173 off him. He is also yet to allow a home run. Both Cavagnaro and Wyner will be suiting up for the Tris Speaker All-Star team. The game can be viewed live on Fox Sports Net Southwest at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) tonight (8:30 p.m. eastern). The game will also be shown on tape delay over several other FSN regional affiliates. Check local listings for the exact times.
