Wine Adds Eric Folmar to Baseball Coaching Staff

Eric Folmar has been hired as an assistant coach for the Penn State baseball program. Folmar spent a total of eight years as a player/assistant coach at Old Dominion.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (June 27, 2005) - Former Old Dominion player/assistant coach Eric Folmar will join the Penn State baseball team's coaching staff, head coach Robbie Wine announced on Monday.

Folmar, who will join the staff effective July 1, will replace eight-year assistant coach Jon Ramsey, who resigned earlier this month to pursue other interests. Folmar will be responsible for coaching the infielders, while also assisting in recruiting, special projects and the academic success of the players.

A native of Chambersburg, Pa., Folmar graduated from Old Dominion University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. He is married to former Lady Monarch field hockey all-American Kim Miller, who was a member of the U.S. National Team. Kim and Eric have a one-year-old son Bryce.

"I am very pleased to add Eric Folmar to our coaching staff," said Wine, who just completed his first season as Penn State's skipper. "Eric brings a positive attitude and a great deal of experience to our staff. He comes from a great family, and we will welcome them with open arms. I feel that he is perfect for helping in our goal to build Penn State baseball into a Big Ten Conference, regional and national-level program."

Folmar spent a total of eight years at Old Dominion, four as a starting infielder, and four as an assistant coach. He played second base, third base and catcher for the Monarchs from 1996-1999, leading the team to three appearances in the Colonial Athletic Association Conference championship game.

After spending two years as an Intramural Director, Residence Hall Director and Assistant Baseball Coach at Young Harris Junior College in Young Harris, Ga., Folmar joined the Old Dominion coaching staff in 2001. During his tenure, Folmar was responsible for coaching the infielders and catchers, as well as the hitters.
