Michael Campo Named to Baseball America's All-America Team

State College, Pa., June 19, 2000 - Penn State outfielder Michael Campo (Absecon, N.J.) was named a second-team All-American by Baseball America on Tuesday, adding to a long list of postseason accolades which followed the Nittany Lions' record-breaking 2000 campaign.

The 2000 Big Ten Player of the Year and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) District I Player of the Year, Campo was also named first-team All-America by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA. The senior posted the nation's longest hitting streak this season with a 41-game effort. Campo closed out the season with a .425 batting average, 83 runs, 48 RBI, 24 doubles and six home runs.

Georgia Tech third baseman Mark Teixeira was named Baseball America's Player of the Year, becoming just the fourth sophomore to earn the honor.

The Pacific-10 Conference led the way with five first-team selections, while the Southeastern Conference added four first-team choices. Campo was the only player from the Big Ten selected to the teams.

Penn State closed out the 2000 campaign with a 45-19 record, an NCAA Regional Championship and a berth in the first NCAA Super Regional in the program's history.
