Campo Named NCBWA District Player Of The Year
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--Penn State outfielder Michael Campo added National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) District I Player of the Year to his long list of growing accolades on Friday. With nine districts representing each of the 50 states, District I consists of colleges and universities in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Campo is the first player in Penn State history to earn district player of the year honors since the NCBWA began the honor in 1999. The 2000 Big Ten Player of the Year, Campo was also named first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA. The senior had the season' longest hitting streak in the country at 41 games and hit .425 on the season. Campo closed out the year with 83 runs, 48 runs-batted-in, 24 doubles and six home runs. All nine of the players were named All-American by at least one publication. The mini-Who's Who in college baseball also include: Darren Fenster, SS, Rutgers (District II); Todd Faulkner, 1B, Auburn (III); Mark Teixeira, 3B, Georgia Tech (IV); Aaron Heilman, P, Notre Dame (V); Shane Komine, P, Nebraska (VI); Brad Cresse, C, LSU (VII); Aaron Sisk, 3B, New Mexico (VIII); Justin Wayne, P, Stanford (IX). The Nittany Lions closed out the 2000 campaign with a 45-19 record, an NCAA Regional Championship and appearance in the NCAA Super Regional. NCBWA District Players of the Year
