Campo Selected First-Team By NCBWA

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--Penn State outfielder Michael Campo was named to the first team of the 14th annual All-America college baseball team as voted on by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The first, second and third teams were released Thursday.

Campo, who wasn't a preseason selection in any publications, earned his second first-team honor after closing out his senior campaign with a .425 batting average that included a 41-game hitting streak. He was also named to Collegiate Baseball's first team before the first game of the NCAA Upper Montclair (N.J.) Regional.

The Absecon, N.J., product owns the Penn State career records for hits (295), doubles (53), runs (232), stolen bases (57), games played (219) and at-bats (790). The first PSU player to record more than 100 hits in a season, Campo also set single-season marks in 2000 with 261 at-bats, 111 hits, 24 doubles and 83 runs.

With Campo as an offensive catalyst, Penn State had one of its most successful seasons ever. The Nittany Lions won a school-record 45 games and made its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1976. PSU also advanced to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time since the NCAA adopted the new format for the 1999 season.
