STATE COLLEGE, Pa., June 5, 2002 - Penn State senior right-handed pitchers Justin Nash (Calvert Hall, Md.) and Mike Watson (Altoona, Pa.) were selected on the second day of the annual Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Nash, the 31st round selection by the Orioles (916th overall), was limited to just 24 innings of work due to arm troubles which kept him out of action during the later part of the season. Nash finished his career with a 13-14 record in 45 appearances (38 starts) and 189.2 innings pitched for the Nittany Lions. Nash was previously a 42nd round selection by the New York Yankees following his senior year at Calvert Hall, H.S. in 1999. His father Preston, was also a draftee of the Baltimore Orioles.

Watson, a 33rd round selection of the Colorado Rockies (981st overall), enters professional baseball following a stellar senior campaign that saw him post a 6-4 record with a 3.95 ERA. As a senior, Watson finished sixth in the Big Ten with 88 strikeouts in 82 innings of work as the ace for the Nittany Lions. The local product from nearby Altoona, Pa., ends his impressive career with an 18-8 record including five saves in 64 appearances (15 starts) and 196.1 innings pitched. The right-hander ends his career ranked third all-time in appearances with 64 and was honored by the Big Ten Conference this past season as third team All Big Ten selection.

Nash and Watson become the eighth and ninth Penn State players to be drafted in the past three seasons and the 17th and 18th players to be selected in the Major League Amateur Draft under since Joe Hindelang became head coach in 1991.
