Chris Wright Cleared to Play in Super Regional
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--Penn State Chris Wright (State College, Pa.) has been cleared to play in this weekend's NCAA Super Regional in Austin, Texas. The Nittany Lions will face the University of Texas in a best-of-three games series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. (CT). Wright has not played since hitting a two-run homer against Ohio State in the Lions' opening game of the Big Ten Tournament on May 17. The first-team All-Big Ten selection was diagnosed with mononucleosis and missed the games because of an enlarged spleen. "Chris went sprinting out to the cage to get some swings," said acting head coach Randy Ford. "He was swinging the bat good. Hopefully, it will be a hop in the players step to see him back out there." But after missing nine games, the sophomore isn't worried about a drop in performance. "I need to take some more swings," Wright said. "It's going to be more mental than physical, but I'll be ready to go and get back to things." The Nittany Lions and Longhorns will be playing for a berth in the NCAA College World Series, June 9-17, in Omaha, Neb.
