Penn State Heads to Texas For NCAA Super Regional

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--Penn State (45-17), ranked No. 18 in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll, will travel to Austin, Texas, for a three-game series against the University of Texas (44-19). The winner advances to the NCAA College World Series held June 9-17 in Omaha, Neb.

Game times are tentatively set for 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Sunday's game three, if necessary, is tentatively slated for 2 p.m.

The Nittany Lions are one of two No. 3 seeds to win their regional. San Jose State also advanced after knocking off both Baylor and Florida in the Waco Regional.

Making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1976 and 19th overall, Penn State has won its last four games. The Lions dropped the tournament opener to North Carolina, but moved through the regional with wins over Army, No. 1 seeded Rutgers and back-to-back victories over the second-seeded Tar Heels to advance to the Super Regional.

Penn State has not been to the NCAA College World Series since 1973 when it was eliminated in two games. The Lions' best finish came in 1957 when they were runners-up to California.

The Lions led the nation in regular-season batting average (.358) and have also broken the season records for wins (45) and doubles (127).
