STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (May 27, 2003) - Penn State senior second baseman Mike DeRenzo (Murrysville, Pa.) has been selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-America Third Team. It marks the third straight season he has been named an Academic All-American by Verizon. DeRenzo recently graduated with a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering with a 3.78 GPA. He was named a Verizon Academic All-American First Team member in 2001 and 2002. DeRenzo is the fifth Penn State student-athlete selected a Verizon Academic All-American thus far in 2002-03, giving Penn State 64 such selections over the past nine years and 103 total. The 1,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) vote for the Verizon Academic All-America Teams. To be eligible, an athlete must be a starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. - Nittany Lions Baseball -
