Penn State's NCAA Baseball Game Has Time Changed; Ticket Info Released




STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 23, 2000 -- Penn State¡¯s NCAA Baseball Tournament contest against North Carolina has been moved to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26 in Upper Montclair, N.J.

NCAA Regional host Rutgers announced the time change Monday night. The No. 1 seeded Scarlet Knights will meet No. 4 seed Army at 3:30 p.m., with the No. 3 seeded Nittany Lions facing the No. 2 Tar Heels at 7:30 p.m. The double-elimination tournament is being played at Yogi Berra Park on the campus of Montclair State University. Tickets are $8 for reserved seats and $6 for general admission for each game. Each game during the tournament will be a separate admission. Tickets will be available at Yogi Berra Park starting on Friday. For additional ticket information, call the Rutgers Athletic Ticket Office, 732-445-2766.

The winners of each of the 16 regionals advance to the two-team NCAA Super Regionals June 2-4. The winner of the Upper Montclair regional will face the winner of the regional being hosted by Arizona State, which is the No. 7 overall seed. The eight Super Regional victors move on to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., June 9-17.

Penn State and No. 16 North Carolina met Feb. 12-13 in the Lions¡¯ season opening series in Chapel Hill, N.C., with the Tar Heels winning 21-10 and 3-2 in 10 innings.

Penn State is making its 19th appearance in the 54 years of the NCAA Baseball Championship. The Lions¡¯ first appearance came in 1949 and Penn State was a regular in the event over the next 27 years, including consecutive bids from 1970-76. The Lions have made five visits to the College World Series, most recently in 1973, finishing second in 1957. Penn State¡¯s overall record in NCAA play is 29-31.
