MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (May 22, 2003) - The Penn State baseball team's second-round meeting with No. 1 Minnesota has been postponed until 1:05 p.m. Friday at Siebert Field.
Pat Boland will provide live play-by-play on ESPN Radio WMAJ 1450 AM and a link to the broadcast will be available at www.GoPSUsports.com. A steady and soaking rain fell over Minneapolis all morning and into the early afternoon Thursday, delaying the start of the second day of action at the Big Ten Tournament. The Nittany Lions were scheduled to begin action at 11:00 p.m. versus the Golden Gophers, but coaches from Penn State and Minnesota decided to postpone the game and allow for a safer playing field for the student-athletes. No. 6 Indiana eliminated No. 5 Northwestern, which the Nittany Lions beat 6-0 on Wednesday, 8-1 in a game that was scheduled for 1:05 p.m., but did not start until 4:50 p.m. No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan are currently scoreless in the fifth inning of a game that started at 8:15 p.m. If No. 4 Penn State beats Minnesota on Friday, it will play the winner of Ohio State/Michigan at 8:05 p.m. If the Nittany Lions were to lose versus the Golden Gophers, they would play the Hoosiers at 4:35 p.m. Both games will also be broadcast live on ESPN Radio WMAJ 1450 AM. A pair of freshman will battle each other in the Penn State/Minnesota game. Sean Stidfole (Duncannon, Pa.), who is 3-1 on the season, will take on the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in Glen Perkins, who is 9-1.
