STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (May 13, 2003) - Sophomore Clint Eury (Butler, Pa.) and freshman Sean Stidfole (Duncannon, Pa.) worked together in a 4-1 victory over Illinois last Friday and now they have come away with a sweep of the Big Ten weekly honors as Eury was named co-Player of the Week and Stidfole was named Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday morning.

Eury, who is the third straight Nittany Lion to pick up a share of the conference's Player of the Week award, and Stidfole become the fifth and sixth players to receive weekly conference honors this season.

Stidfole gave up just one unearned run over eight-plus innings while striking out a career-high nine batters (six looking) in only his second career start. The freshman hurler improved to 3-0 on the year, with all three victories coming in league play. He allowed five hits and walked just two batters while lowering his ERA to 2.38. Stidfole joins juniors Jim Farrell (Harleysville, Pa.) and Clayton Hamilton (Beaver Falls, Pa.) as Penn State pitchers who picked up the honor this season.

Eury excelled both at the plate and on the mound to split Big Ten Player of the Week accolades with Purdue's Daniel Underwood. The sophomore first baseman batted .692 (9-for-13) in a four-game set versus Illinois last weekend and he had an on-base percentage of .714 and an astounding slugging percentage of 1.154. Eury also made a relief appearance and pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam to save Stidfole's victory on Friday and lower his team-best ERA to 0.50. He picked up his third save in the game.

Seniors Wes Reohr (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Mike DeRenzo (Murrysville, Pa.) were Big Ten Player of the Week recipients on April 28th and May 5th, respectively.
