UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-Penn State's Dan Goebeler (New Freedom, Pa.) was named to the GTE Academic All-District 2 baseball team it was announced Friday. The senior was one of 11 players to be recognized.

Also named to the 1998 all-district team, Goebeler is among this weekend's graduating class. He carried a 3.53 GPA to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering. Goebeler is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. As the Lions' No. 2 starter, he has a 6-2 record and 3.92 ERA. He has recorded 38 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .255 batting average.

The 11 members of the District 2 team will now be eligible for Academic All-America honors. Their names will be placed on a national ballot and voted on by members of the College Sports information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The GTE Academic All-America team will be announced on Tuesday, June 6.
