Lance Thompson Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team

Lance Thompson was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II First Team. A senior from Brisbin, Pa., Thompson has a 3.41 GPA while majoring in Life Sciences.

University Park, Pa.; May 11, 2006 - Senior outfielder Lance Thompson of the Penn State baseball team was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team on Thursday, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Thompson, a native of nearby Brisbin, Pa. and a graduate of Moshannon Valley High School, has a 3.41 grade point average while majoring in Life Science.

While he has also excelled in the classroom, Thompson is wrapping up one of the most successful careers on the field in Penn State baseball history. Thompson currently leads the Nittany Lions in hitting with a .374 average. He is the only member of the team to start all 47 games this year and also leads the team in RBI (41), total bases (92), doubles (14), slugging percentage (.514), and is second in on-base percentage (.439). With still nine regular season games left to play this year, Thompson currently ranks sixth in career hits with 207 and fifth in career doubles with 45. Earlier this year, Thompson had a career-best 12-game hitting streak.

Thompson and the Nittany Lions close out their home schedule this weekend as they take on Michigan in the final-ever series at Beaver Field.
