UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (May 8, 2005) - The Penn State baseball team had a tough day on the diamond as the Ohio State offense awakened to defeat the Nittany Lions 13-10 and 29-2 in a doubleheader Sunday at Beaver Field.

The Buckeyes scored 14 runs in the first inning of Game 2. The 29 runs were the most ever scored against a Penn State baseball team.

Ohio State has won the first three games of this four game series. The finale will be played 1 p.m. Monday at Beaver Field. That game can be heard live on ESPN Radio WMAJ 1450 AM, and a link to listen will be available at www.GoPSUsports.com.

Ohio State tied the game with three runs in the second inning. But Penn State came back to take a 9-5 lead after RBI doubles by Lewis and Leitgeb, and a two-run single by Ernst. That chased Ohio State starter Cory Luebke fro the game. But Brett Hatcher came in to keep the Penn State offense in check.

The Buckeyes scored three runs in the fifth inning to chase Nittany Lion starter Craig Clark (Phoenixville, Pa.), and then scored two more in the sixth and one more in the seventh Hatcher picked up the win after tossing 4.1 innings, giving up just one run on four hits while striking out three.
