Penn State won two of three games in the tournament, as the Big Ten claimed the first-ever challenge title.
Mike Deese batted .583 with seven hits to lead Penn State to two wins in the inaugural Big Ten/Big East Challenge this weekend. Deese posted on-base and slugging percentages of .667 in three game. In a loss to St. John's on Friday, Deese reached base in all five at-bats, scored two runs and had an RBI. The senior from Roswell, Ga. scored two runs in a 9-1 victory over Northwestern on Saturday before providing the Nittany Lions with a crucial two-run single as Penn State rallied to score six in the top of the ninth inning for a 6-1 victory over Seton Hall.
T.J. Macy pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing one earned run in a no-decision against the Pirates. The Boise, Idaho senior struck out eight and walked two batters.
The Nittany Lions return to action this weekend when they travel to Austin, Texas to take on the Longhorns of Texas.
