Mazzocco to compete at NCAA Meet

State College, Pa., Nov. 18, 2003 - Having earned Penn State's first NCAA Regional individual title since 1988 last Saturday, freshman Dan Mazzocco (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will now shoot for NCAA All-America honors as he competes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Waterloo, Iowa, Nov. 24.

Mazzocco will represent Penn State on the 10-kilometer course among the nation's top runners. He will need to be among the top 25 Americans to cross the line to become Penn State's first All-American in cross country since 1993. Penn State athletes have earned 45 All-America titles in cross country the last coming with Jake Bartholomy in 1993. The men's NCAA race begins at 11:00 a.m. (CT).

The rest of the Nittany Lion team will be among the favorites to win the IC4A Championship race at New York's Van Cortland Park on Saturday, Nov. 22. Penn State has won eight IC4A Cross Country Championships, the last coming in 2000. The race begins at 11:00 a.m.
