Loren leads Penn State Men's Cross Country to 14th place finish at NCAA Regional




State College, Pa., Nov. 17, 2002 - Senior Josh Loren (Waterford, Pa.) led Penn State to a 14th place finish out of a field of 26 competing teams at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with his 42nd finish in a time of 31:56.7 on the 10K course in the mountains of West Virginia.

Villanova won the meet with a total of 40 points and Georgetown placed second with 45 points in the team competition. Georgetown's Mike Smith earned the individual title placing first with a time of 30:28.1.

Other scorers for Penn State included Freshman Shawn Cavanaugh (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who was the second Nittany Lion across the line for 58th place in a time of 32:25.5. Sophomore Mike Gioia (Blue Point, N.Y.) came in at 74th place in a time 32:43.6 and senior Michael Enwright (Jamison, Pa.) ran the course in a time of 33:04.4 for 89th.

Sophomore Tim Walker (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) ran a time of 33:48.6 and junior Chris Pruitt (Flemington, N.J.) ran a time of 33:49.8 for 115th and 116th places, respectively. Rounding out the placing for Penn State was sophomore Chris Foster (Severna Park, Md.) who placed 124th in a time of 34:06.9.

The Nittany Lions are back in action November 23 for the IC4A Championships in Van Cortland Park, N.Y. The meet is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
