Men's Big Ten Awards Women's Big Ten Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Head cross country and track & field coach John Gondak has been named the 2015 Big Ten Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference Wednesday.

Most recently, Gondak led the women’s cross country team to its first Big Ten title since 2009. Gondak was a unanimous selection for the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year award.

Gondak, who is in his second year as head coach, led Penn State to its first title since 2009 with four Nittany Lions finishing among the top 12 at the Big Ten Championships Sunday in Chicago, Ill. Gondak earns his first Big Ten Coach of the Year honor and second overall for Penn State.

"I want to thank the coaches of the Big Ten for recognizing the performance of our women on Sunday," said head coach John Gondak. "This recognition would not be possible without their efforts on the course and their belief in themselves as student-athletes. The success we have had so far this season also would not be possible without the great efforts of Coach Angela Reckart, our athletic trainer Mike Gay, and all of the other support our program has at Penn State."

Also, Wade Endress (Altoona, Pa.) and Julie Kocjancic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) both garnered Big Ten Sportsmanship awards.

The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
