Penn State to host 2000 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Pennsylvania State University is proud to be hosting the 2000 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regional Championships on Saturday, November 11, 2000, at the Penn State Blue/White Golf Courses.

Competitors
A maximum of 35 men's teams will be competing on a 10,000 meter course, while a possible 36 women's teams will run on a 6,000 meter course. Some teams will forgo the regional championships to prepare for the indoor track and field season.

Start Times
The women's race will begin at 12 p.m., with the men's race to follow at 1:15 p.m.

NCAA Qualifiers
The top two teams in each division will earn automatic qualifying spots in the 2000 NCAA Championships in Ames, Iowa, the site of the 2000 Pre Nationals on October 14, 2000. The top four individuals who place in the top 25 and who are not a member of either an automatic or at-large NCAA qualifying team are able to qualify for the national championships.

Results

Practice Times
Schools will be able to hold practices on Friday, Nov. 10 from 1-5 p.m. at the Blue/White Courses registration tent. Coaches will be able to pick up their distribution packets at this time. Coaches will then be treated to a social from 7:30-8 p.m. at the Boardroom in the Nittany Lion Inn, followed by a mandatory coaches meeting room 8-10 p.m. in the same room. Teams will be able to warm-up for 90 minutes starting at 10 a.m. before the races begin. Final results will be available to coaches at approximately 2:45 p.m. and the Coaches' Association Awards Presentation will immediately follow.

Concessions and Merchandise
Concessions and merchandise trailers will be selling various food and hot drinks and official NCAA Championship merchandise near the start/finish line throughout Saturday. Merchandise will also be available at practice on Friday as well.

Course
The Penn State men's and women's cross country teams take advantage of their challenging landscape of the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses. As per NCAA rules, the women's course is 6,000 meters and the men's course is 10,000 meters. The competitive start and finish lines can be found off North Atherton Street (US Business Route 322) across from Rec Hall.

Programs
The Official NCAA Championship programs will be sold for $2.00 at concession stands and merchandise trailers. The programs will feature complete rosters of each team and feature stories on the event and competitors.

For the fans
Spectator admission and parking will be free of charge. Limited spectator parking will be available in the far East section of the Red-A/Orange-W parking lot on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please follow the direction of the Penn State Auxiliary Officers at the entrance of the parking lot.
