Penn State Men's Cross Country Team Finishes Third at Penn State National, Dan Mazzocco Finishes Second

STATE COLLEGE, PA., OCT. 16, 2004 - The Penn State men's cross country team finished third at the Penn State National meet, hosted by Penn State. The men competed against 40 teams and compiled a score of 135 points. American took first with 49 points, while the University of Pennsylvania took home second place with a total of 83 points.

Sophomore and All-Big Ten Dan Mazzocco (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished second with a time of 25:27, senior Christopher Foster (Severna Park, Md.) finished seventh with a time of 25:44 and senior Joel Moceri (Reading, Pa.) finished 12th with a time of 26:00.

Finishing up the top seven spots for the men's team were freshman Oskar Nordenbring (Bloomfield, N.J.) who finished 56th (26:48), junior Christopher Nirschel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 59th (26:49), freshman Teddy Quinn (Rush, N.Y.) finished 86th (27:06) and freshman Brian Fuller (Camp Hill, Pa.) finished 91st (27:08).

"The men did really well today, but we still need to focus on keeping our group together and having our top five men run as close together as possible," said Head Coach Harry Groves.

Next up for the men's team is the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 31. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
