Penn State Women's Cross Country Team Finishes Sixth at Penn State National

STATE COLLEGE, PA., OCT. 16, 2004 - The Penn State women's cross country team finished sixth at the Penn State National meet, hosted by Penn State. The women competed against 41 teams from across the country and compiled 212 points. No. 2 ranked Providence took first with 49 points, No. 5 ranked Duke took second place with 60 points and No. 24 West Virginia finished third with 194 points.

Senior All-Big Ten and All-Region Molly Landreth (Newburyport, Pa.) finished 29th with a time of 21:43, junior Jenny Stevens (Hookset, Nh.) finished 38th with a time of 21:58 and senior Kayla Matrunick (Labtrobe, Pa.) finished 43rd with a time of 22:04.

Finishing up the top seven spots for the women's team were junior Tracey Brauksieck (Homer, N.Y.) who finished 50th (22:13), freshman Nikki Bohnsack (Rockford, Mich.) finished 57th (22:21), senior Karli Kotulka (State College, Pa.) finished 99th (22:47) and senior Linsday Scottoline (Glenolden, Pa.) finished 125th (23:07).

"I thought it was a really terrific day for cross country and an overall great competition. I am proud of how well my runners did today, we were only 18 points away from the third place finisher (West Virginia)," said Head Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan.

Next up for the women Harriers is the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 31. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
