Men's Cross Country Runs Tough Race at Penn State National

University Park, Pa., Oct. 12, 2002 - The Penn State men's cross country team ran a tough race against some outstanding talent on Saturday. The men fought their way through the muddiness of the Blue and White Golf Course to an eighth place finish overall. A Canadian team, Speed River TC, from Ontario ended up taking first place. Coming in the top spot for the Nittany Lions was senior Josh Loren (Waterford, Pa.) who ended up 25th overall with a time of 27:04.66. Junior Scott Munro (South Park, Pa.) and sophomore Mike Gioia (Blue Point, NY) finished in 31st and 32nd place. To round out the scoring for the Nittany Lions was sophomore Chris Foster (Sverna Park, Md.), senior Mike Enwright (Jamison, Pa.), senior Steve Holmes (Wayneswboro, Pa.), and sophomore Eamon Brazunas (Wayne, Pa.) "We're working hard, but just didn't get the results we wanted, but sometimes that's what happens," says Coach Groves. The top five teams overall were Speed River TC, from Ontario with a score of 91, then came West Virginia with a score of 95, followed by the Nittany Spiked Shoe team with 98. Next was Guelph, another Canadian team with 113, and in fifth place was Canisius with 120 points. Next week, on October 19, the Nittany Lions will be in action at Terre Hatue, Ind. for the Indiana State Pre-National.
