Women's Cross Country Team Wins Paul Short Invitational
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Women's Cross Country team out-ran 38 other teams to win the 28th Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
The Nittany Lions finished with a team score of 109 points, while second place Bucknell had 123 points. Penn State also beat district rivals Georgetown and West Virginia. Pacing the Nittany Lions for the third straight meet was freshman Michelle Wale (Fr., Pine Bush, NY), who finished in second place in a time of 21:15.85. Wale finished only seven seconds behind the winner Erin Silvering of the University of Rhode Island. Other top 30 finishers for the Nittany Lions included Chelsea Lenge (Fr., West Hartford, Conn.), who finished 14th in 21:45.01, and Beth Sharkey (So., Hazleton, Pa.), who finished 29th with a time of 22:11.15. Finishing right behind them were Maureen Thomas (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Molly Landreth (Fr., Newburyport, Mass.). The duo finished in 32nd and 36th with times of 22:13.57 and 22:16.11. Also running strong for Penn State were Jess Riden (So., Reedsville, Pa.) and Kris Phillips (Jr., Niskayuna, NY), who finished 48th and 105th with times of 22:28.77 and 23:11.34. The Nittany Loins will attempt to continue their winning ways next Saturday at the National Invitational to be held on the Blue-White golf course at Penn State.
