Men's Cross Country Grab Top Spot At Short Invitational
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- It didn't take long for the Penn State men's cross country team to take home a team title. In just the second week of the 2001 season, Harry Groves' harriers grabbed the top spot in the team championship of the Paul Short Invitational with 66 points, Saturday afternoon on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University. Bucknell finished in second with 133 points, as LaSalle came in third. The Nittany Lions had three runners place in the top ten, as senior Steve Walsh (Blue Bell, Pa.) finished third in a time of 24:48. Sophomore Scott Munro (South Park, Pa.) came in seventh (25:00), while senior Gregg Davis (Council Rock, Pa.) followed in eighth place in 25:01. Senior John McGrorey (West Chester, Pa.) came in 17th with a time of 25:13, as Josh Loren (junior/ Waterford, Pa.) rounded out the top five of the Nittany Lion runners with a 36th place finish in 25:34. Penn State will be in action next week (Sat., Oct. 13), as the Nittany Lions host their only home meet of the season in the National Invitational/PSU Open at the PSU Blue/White Golf Courses. The race will begin at 11 a.m.
