Nittany Lion Women¡¯s Cross Country Team Places 23rd at Paul Short Run

State College, Pa. ¨C October 1, 2005 ¨C The Penn State Nittany Lion women¡¯s cross country team finished 23rd in the 47 team Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University today. The Nittany Lions had one runner in the top 75 of a field featuring over 300 runners.

Freshman Janelle Young (Lemoyne, Pa.) paced Penn State with a time of 22:01, good enough for 73rd place. Sophomore Sonja Hinish (Williamsburg, Pa.) was next for Penn State, finishing in 105th place in a time of 22:20. The twosome helped Penn State post a score of 641. Columbia won the event with a 121 score, with five of six runners finishing in the top 50.

Sophomore Nikki Bohnsack (Rockford, Mich.) was next for Penn State, finishing in 123rd in 22:30. Freshman Molly Ritter (Arendtsville, Pa.) finished in 155th with a time of 22:52 while classmates Claire Percival (Sarnia, Ontario) and Claire Berryman (Morgantown, W.V.) rounded out Penn State¡¯s scorers. Percival was 185th in 23:07 and Berryman was 189th in 23:10.

Head Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan and her Penn State squad will be idle next weekend as they prepare to host the Penn State National on Saturday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m.
