Penn State Men's Cross Country Opens The Season At The Roy Griak
University Park, Pa. - It was a long time coming, but it finally arrived. The Penn State men's cross country team opened its 2001 season with a 23rd place showing (478 points) at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
Nittany Lion senior Steve Walsh (Blue Bell, Pa.) took 42nd out of 311 runners with a time of 24:54.7. Sophomore Scott Munro (South Park, Pa.) finished 50th with a time of 25 minutes even.
Other Nittany Lion finishers included: senior Gregg Davis (88th, 25:17.1); senior John McGrorey (104th, 25:24.5); freshman Jim Wiggin (194th, 26:04.0); junior Josh Loren (195th, 26:05.8); sophomore Francis Lambert (26:55.0).
The rest of the Nittany Lion harriers competed in the George Washington Invitational, as Penn State finished first with a team score of 48 points.
Penn State will again be in action next Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. The race begins at 11 a.m.
