Freshman Brauksieck helps Nittany Lions defend Paul Short Run title
Lehigh, Pa., Sept. 28, 2002- Penn State freshman Tracey Brauksieck (Homer, N.Y.) once again led the Nittany Lions to victory and helped Penn State defend their title with her fourth place finish at the Paul Short Run with a time of 21:06.36.
Penn State¡¯s score of 55 points gave them a comfortable win in the 33-team field over second place team WVU, who scored 92. Finishing up the top five were Princeton with 108, Columbia B with 178, and Wayne State with 184.
Sophomore Chelsea Lenge (West Hartford, Conn.) also ran a solid race for the Lions finishing sixth with a time of 21:17.95, just under 12 seconds behind teammate Brauksieck. Sophomore Molly Landreth (Newburyport, Mass.) was next across the line with a time of 21:41.31 for tenth place. Rounding out the scoring for the Lions was junior Katy Hillard (Turbotville, Pa.) who was fourteenth with a time of 21:58.09 and junior transfer Tara Johnson (Glenolden, Pa.) with a time 22:09.49 placing twenty first.
Other placers for the Nittany Lions included junior Maureen Thomas (Bethlehem, Pa.) who was thirty fourth with a time of 22:25.02 and sophomore Kayla Matrunik (Latrobe, Pa.) who was thirty sixth with a time of 22:26.33.
The Nittany Lions are in action again in two weeks when they host the National Meet, which is set to start at 10:00 a.m.
