Penn State Women's Cross Country Team Places Ninth at Roy Griak Invitational

ST. PAUL, MINN., Sept. 25, 2004 - The Penn State women's cross country team took ninth place today at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The women scored a total of 282 points, right behind Texas Tech, who had a total of 254 points. Providence won the race, with Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara following.

All-Big Ten and All-Region senior Molly Landreth (Newburyport, Mass.) finished 19th with a time of 21:46. Senior Chelsea Lenge (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 49th (22:26) and senior Jenny Stevens (Hookset, Nh.) finished 57th (22:33).

Rounding out the top seven times for Penn State, were junior Tracey Braukseick (Homer, N.Y.) who finished 74th with a time of 22:47, senior Kayla Matrunick (Latrobe, Pa.) who came in 98th (23:07), freshman Nikki Bohnsack (Rockford, Mich.) finished 111th (23:13) and freshman Sonja Hinish (Williamsburg, Pa.) came in 132nd (23:31).

The women's team recently moved up two spots to No. 21 in the NCAA Division 1A poll. Next up for the women Harriers is the Adidas Notre Dame Invitational on October 1st. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
