UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -Penn State sophomore Tessa Barrett was named Big Ten cross country Co-Athlete of the Week Wednesday following a record breaking performance Saturday at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.

This is the second accolade Barrett has received this week following Monday's USTFCCCA DI National Athlete of the Week honor.

Led by sophomore team captain Tessa Barrett, the No. 13 Nittany Lion women claimed a team title for the second consecutive week at Saturday's Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pa.

Barrett led the Nittany Lions to the title for the fifth-straight year among a nine-team field, finishing first in the 6K race at the Spiked Shoe setting a new meet record that had been on the books for 16 years.

Barrett earns her first career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor and is the first Penn State Athlete to earn Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors since Tori Gerlach received the merit Sept. 16, 2015 following her win at the Spiked Shoe Invtl.

Michigan's Erin Finn shared the honors with Barrett after she paced the Wolverines to the team title, finishing first in the 5K race at the Sycamore Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Nittany Lions are back on the grass at the Roy Griak Invitational on September 24.

The Roy Griak Invite will serve as a preview of the Big Ten Championship course as Minneapolis, MN will host the Big Ten Championships Oct. 30.
