Penn State men¡¯s cross country opens season with a victory at Spiked Shoe

STATE COLLEGE, PA., SEPT. 13, 2003 - The Penn State men¡¯s cross country team won the Spiked Shoe today with a score of 30 points. Youngstown State came in second with a total of 73 points and Duquesne was third with 73.

Sophomore Dan Mazzocco was Penn State¡¯s top runner on the day winning the race with a time of 26:01.95.

Rounding out the top 10 for Penn State was junior Chris Foster with a time of 26:34.90 for fifth, senior Chris Pruitt taking eighth (26:49.42) and junior Joel Moceri placing ninth (26:49.95).

Susquehanna¡¯s Ryan Gleason took second with a time of 26:17.85 and an unattached runner, Mark Stallings, was third with a 26:29.78.

Next up for the Nittany Lions will be the Lock Haven Invitational set to start at 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 27. Lock Haven University is the same sight of the NCAA Region II Championships on Nov. 15.
