Penn State Men¡¯s Cross Country Team Places Fifth at Spiked Shoe Meet
STATE COLLEGE, PA., SEPT. 11, 2004 - The Penn State men¡¯s cross country team opened the season with a fifth place finish at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, which they hosted. The team scored 131 points, just 20 behind St. Joseph¡¯s who finished fourth. Princeton took first place, with La Salle and Columbia following.
Senior Chris Foster placed fourteenth with a time of 26:22.85. Following right behind Foster was senior Joel Moceri who came in 16th (26:27.53) and All-Big Ten and All-Region sophomore Dan Mazzocco who finished 19th (26:34.03). Head Coach Harry Groves, who is in his 37th season at Penn State, is looking to have his runners progress throughout the rest of the season. ¡°A lot of fences need to be mended,¡± said Groves. Next up for the men¡¯s team is the Paul Short Invitational on September 25th. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
