Men's & Women's Cross Country Set To Open Season By Hosting Spiked Shoe Meet On Saturday
State College, Pa. - The Penn State Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will kick off the 2003 season on Saturday, Sept. 13 as they host the 2003 Spiked Shoe Meet. The event will be held at the Penn State Blue-White Golf Courses.
The races start with the collegiate women at 10 a.m. They will be followed by the men's collegiate race at 10:45 a.m. Approximately 15 collegiate teams will compete.
Four high school races will follow the collegiate portion of the event as approximately 50 boys and girls teams comprised of nearly 1,200 athletes will compete. Boys and girls will be divided into two races each of approximately 25 teams. The high school girls' blue race will start at 11:30 a.m., with the second girls' race (white group) to follow at 12 p.m. The first of two high school boys' races (blue group) will begin at 12:30 p.m., while the final boys' race (white group) will begin at 1 p.m.
Both college races will feature universities from across the state of Pennsylvania and throughout the eastern part of the country. The high school portion of the day will feature teams from six states as athletes from Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia will compete.
