Big Ten Conference Release
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After leading her Nittany Lion squad to a seven-runner sweep at the Lock Haven Dolan Duals, sophomore Caitlin Lane (Greenwich) has been named Big Ten Runner of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. Lane shares this week's laurels with Big Ten competitors Danielle Tauro of Michigan, and Betsy Flood of Iowa.
Lane, who was also the event champion at the same race last season, cruised to the individual title at Lock Haven, covering the 4,000-meter short course in 13:54.90 - nearly 50 seconds faster than her winning time from 2008. The sophomore paced the Lions' 15-point perfect score in the team standings, along with teammates Nicole Lord (Media, Pa.), Kara Millhouse (Boiling Springs, Pa.), Brooklyne Ridder (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Jessie Babcock (Irvine, Calif.), who filled out the top five finishing spots.
The Nittany Lions will be at home this weekend, hosting the annual Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Blue-White Golf Course. The competition begins with high school races at 4 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 11, followed by collegiate action at 5:30 p.m.
