UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Fifth-year senior Matt Fischer (Kennett Square, Pa.) posted a time of 30 minutes, 16 seconds to win the Mid-Atlantic Regional title Friday at the Blue-White Golf Course. With his first-place finish, Fischer advances to the NCAA Cross Country Championships next Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

Fischer's first-place finish at the regional meet is the highest for the Nittany Lions since Kyle Dawson placed second in 2010.

Glen Burkhardt (Kennett Square, Pa.), Wade Endress (Altoona, Pa.) and Robby Creese (Mount Airy, Md.), along with Fischer garnered all-region honors as they tallied top-25 finishes.

Burkhardt was just outside the top-10 as he posted a 12th-place finish (30:27). Joining Burkhardt in the top-20 was Endress; Endress clocked in at 30:33 to finish 17th.

The final Penn State all-region honoree, Creese finished 22nd with his time of 30:47.

Rounding out the scoring for the Nittany Lions was Ean DiSilvio (Pittsburgh, Pa.). DiSilvio completed the 10,000-meter run with his time of 31:02 to finish 35th.

Also competing for the Nittany Lions were Anthony Russell (West Chester, Pa.) and Austin Pondel (Columbus, Pa.). Russell and Pondel finished 49th (31:22) and 52nd (31:24), respectively.

As a team, No. 24 Penn State finished third with their score of 87 points edging out (RV) Princeton by one point (88 points). No. 7 Villanova went onto win the team title with their score of 41 points, followed by a second-place finish by No. 14 Georgetown (74 points).
