UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Fifth-year senior Matt Fischer (Kennett Square, Pa.) posted a time of 30 minutes, 16 seconds to win the Mid-Atlantic Regional title Friday at the Blue-White Golf Course. With his first-place finish, Fischer advances to the NCAA Cross Country Championships next Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
Fischer's first-place finish at the regional meet is the highest for the Nittany Lions since Kyle Dawson placed second in 2010.
Burkhardt was just outside the top-10 as he posted a 12th-place finish (30:27). Joining Burkhardt in the top-20 was Endress; Endress clocked in at 30:33 to finish 17th.
The final Penn State all-region honoree, Creese finished 22nd with his time of 30:47.
Rounding out the scoring for the Nittany Lions was Ean DiSilvio (Pittsburgh, Pa.). DiSilvio completed the 10,000-meter run with his time of 31:02 to finish 35th.
As a team, No. 24 Penn State finished third with their score of 87 points edging out (RV) Princeton by one point (88 points). No. 7 Villanova went onto win the team title with their score of 41 points, followed by a second-place finish by No. 14 Georgetown (74 points).
Villanova and Georgetown automatically advance to the NCAA Championships with their top-two team finishes.
Fischer, Thomas Awad (Penn), Ryan Mahalsky (Lehigh) and Stephen Schroeder (Navy) advance individually to the NCAA meet.
With their third-place finish, Penn State scored points in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.
