Penn State Alumni Challenge for Former Student-Athletes March Update

April 3, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Spring has sprung and the challenge competition is heating up. With just under three months left in the challenge, teams are increasing their numbers in hopes of winning one of the grand prizes.

The first nine months of the challenge gave our teams a great start with 2076 former student-athletes contributing to their programs through the Nittany Lion Club (NLC). New supporters have also made a strong showing, of the former student-athletes who have joined the challenge, 18% are new donors.

Several teams are moving into the lead and are eyeing the first part of the $6,000 prize, which is reserved for the team with the highest percentage of former student-athletes supporting Penn State Athletics. Among them, the top 5 teams with the highest percentage of former student-athlete support so far are; men's ice hockey (36.46%), women's ice hockey (28.42%), football (25.59%), men's lacrosse (23.46%) and men's volleyball (18.26%).

Three teams have taken a step forward in winning the second prize of $6,000 for the team with the highest percentage increase of former student-athlete donors over last year. The women's ice hockey program is 7.37% percent ahead of last year's numbers, men's golf .94% and the men's ice hockey program is .83% ahead of 2013's numbers. It's not too late for the other teams to rally and catch the leaders!
