ABOUT THE KEVIN DARE HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL:
The Kevin Dare High School Invitational will be conducted at the Multi-Sport Facility - Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track, on January 7, 2016. The meet has been named in memory of Kevin Dare, a Penn State pole vaulter who was killed in a pole vaulting accident at the 2002 Big Ten Championships. Kevin was also a high school standout, winning two Pennsylvania state titles while competing at State College High School. This is an invitational high school meet and is sanctioned by the PIAA in cooperation with the National Federation of High Schools. All NFHS rules apply for this meet.
Due to sanctioning restrictions, ONLY schools from the following states may compete:
Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia
Also Note - According to NCAA Rule 184.108.40.206, this meet must appear on your schedule for your athletes to compete.
To provide a high quality scholastic meet, acceptance will be limited to the first 30 girls' teams that register and the first 30 boys' teams to respond with their entry PAID IN FULL.
KEVIN DARE "HEART OF THE LION" AWARD:
In memory of Penn State pole vaulter Kevin Dare, the Penn State Track and Field staff introduced a new way of honoring Kevin in 2012. The "Kevin Dare Heart of the Lion" Award is presented to promote courage, sportsmanship and leadership in track and field. Each accepted team will be asked to nominate an athlete from their boys' and girls' program. A link to nominate will be sent to all ACCEPTED teams.
