Aduba claims fifth All-America honor with seventh place finish in NCAA triple jump

Austin, Texas, June 12, 2004 - Penn State senior Chi-Chi Aduba (Medfield, Mass.) capped off her stellar Penn State career Saturday earning the fifth All-America title of her career with a seventh place finish in the triple jump at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Texas.

The 2004 Big Ten and NCAA East Regional runner-up in the event, Aduba bettered her own Penn State record with her first attempt on a hot Texas afternoon putting down a mark of 44-6 3/4. Aduba had a strong competition putting down three marks over 44 feet and stood second after the first round and fifth going into the finals. Nebraska senior Ineta Radevica, the 2004 indoor champion, defended her 2003 outdoor triple jump title winning the competition with a mark of 45-6 1/4.

Aduba collected her first outdoor All-America title in the triple jump, adding it to the All-America honors she claimed with a sixth place finish in the long jump on Friday. She now ranks third all-time among Penn State women behind only her teammate Connie Moore (10) and shot putter Elaine Sobansky (8 from 1981-84) in All-America honors earned in track and field. She completes her Penn State career having won three individual Big Ten titles in the long and triple jumps and one conference relay title in the 4x100-meter relay.

Aduba also claimed the 2004 East Region title in the long jump, was named the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Region Indoor Athlete of the Year, owns Penn State indoor and outdoor records in both the long and triple jumps and as part of three relays, and helped Penn State to its first-ever Big Ten title in track and field (2004 indoors) and the programs highest-ever finishes at the conference and NCAA meets.

Ten-time All-American Connie Moore was due to compete in the 200-meter final at 9:15 p.m. (ET) Saturday night. The two-time East Region Champion in the event, she is among the favorites to claim the NCAA title.
