Women's Track Team to Send Four to NCAA Championships
University Park, Pa., May 26, 2000 - The Penn State women's track and field team has qualified four individuals, including two returning All-Americans, for the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Duke University in Durham, North Carlina. The Nittany Lions will have three individuals competing in field events and one on the track in the championships that run from Wed., May 31, through Sat., June 3. Heading the list of Penn State qualifiers is Big Ten discus champion Deshaya Williams. The sophomore qualified for her second outdoor championship in the discus and shot put. Williams finished sixth in the discus last year earning her first All-America honor. Joining Williams will be senior Susanne Heyer who will be making her second NCAA appearance in the 1,500 meters. She finished fourth in the event last year to earn All-America honors and was second at the 2000 Big Ten Championships. Also a pair of javelin throwers will be competing as senior Carrie Karabinos and freshman Brianne Johnson qualified. It will be the second NCAA appearance for Karabinos.
