Women's Track Racks up Honors at James Madison Invitational

Harrisonburg, Va.-- The Penn State women's track team achieved eight ECAC, two NCAA provisional qualifying marks, and three first place finishes at the James Madison Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Leading the charge was Brianne Johnson (So., Harrisburg, Pa.) who took first place in the javelin. Her throw of 167'03.00 was good for another NCAA provisional qualifying mark and outdistanced the second place finisher by over 42 feet. Other first place finishes were turned in by Toyin Augustus (Sr., Huntsville, Ala.) and Kathy Messner (So., Thurmont, Md.). Augustus won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.65 seconds, while Messner took first in the high jump with a leap of 5'06.50". Both of those marks were ECAC qualifying marks. Kris Phillips earned the other NCAA provisional qualifying mark with her time of 10:48.20 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Three other Lions achieved ECAC qualifying marks over the weekend. Sophomore Connie Moore (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Chi-Chi Aduba each (Medfield, Mass.) nabbed two marks each. Moore took third place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.51 seconds, and finished second in the 200 meters in a time of 24.55. Aduba finished second in the long jump with a jump of 19"11' and fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 39"00'. Teammate Cristian Dolbin (Jr., Pottsville, Pa.) finished third in the triple jump and earned an ECAC qualifying mark with a jump of 39"01.75". A final ECAC qualifying mark was gobbled up by the Penn State 4x100 relay team, which finished third in the competition with a time of 46.59 seconds.

Next weekend, the Penn State women's track team takes on the best of the Big Ten as they travel to Bloomington, Indiana for the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Indiana.
