University Park, Pa., March 8, 2000 - The organizers of the Penn Relays, one of the nation's most storied and prestigious track meets, have announced plans to induct Penn State's 1985 4x800 meter relay team into the competitions hall of fame. The 1985 relay team made up of Vance Watson, Steve Shisler, Chris Mills and Randy Moore and coached by current head coach Harry Groves posted a meet record time of 7:11.17. The time was the best ran in the world that year at any level and still stands as a Penn State and Penn Relays record. Watson led off the relay with a split of 1:49.2 and Shisler followed with a 1:47.9. Mills and Moore, both State College Area High School graduates, closed out the record time with 1:48.5 and 1:45.5 splits. Moore's anchor leg split time is the fastest ever run at the Penn Relays in the event. The 1985 relay team will be the second group of Nittany Lions inducted into the hall of fame as they join the 1923 4x880 yard relay team.
