Day One Results
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Nittany Lions opened up the 2018 Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup, the first scored meet of the indoor season for Penn State, with a 48-point lead on the men’s side while the women are currently 12-points off the lead.
In the most exciting event of the day, Penn State sophomore David Lucas broke his own school record twice on the night, finishing with a best of 22.68m (74’-5”). Lucas’ mark is currently the No. 2 mark in the NCAA trailing only North Carolina State’s Josh Davis who owns the NCAA-leading mark of 23.24m (76’-3”).
Lucas wasn’t the only Nittany Lion over 21-meters as Morgan Shigo launched a throw of 21.88m (71’-9.50”) that would’ve been a school record mark heading into the meet. The Nittany Lions finished 1-2-4-5 scoring 27-points in the event.
Obeng Marfo brought home points in the weight throw as well, finishing third with a best of 16.95m (55’-7.50”).
Will Henderson turned in a solid afternoon of work for Penn State, capturing the 60-meter title in 6.83 seconds as well as winning the men’s long jump with a best of 7.29m (23’-11”) and posting a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.11) scoring 28-points in total for the Nittany Lions on day one.
While Henderson was the event winner in both the 60-meters and long jump, teammates Darien Williams (6.98) in the 60-meters and Malik Moffett (7.20m/23’-7.50”) and Bryce Williams (7.05m/23’-1.75”) in the long jump also brought home points for the Nittany Lions.
In the women’s long jump, Penn State finished 2-3-4 in scoring
