Former University of Iowa standout Andy Banse is in his first season with the Nittany Lions, and will assist with the throwing events. As a four-time letterwinner for the Hawkeyes, Banse enjoyed a stellar career in Iowa City in the circle and in the classroom, earning Academic All-America honors in 2005, while also being named a National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American during the same season. Banse also brings a wealth of experience at various levels of the collegiate athletic system, most recently serving as the Associate Director of Compliance at his alma mater.
As a Hawkeye, Banse was a multiple-time Big Ten finalist in the shot put, claiming a career-best third-place finish at the 2005 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. For his efforts, Banse was named the team's "Most Valuable Competitor" during the 2005 campaign, and also earned the 2005 Big Ten Sportsmanship award. In the classroom, Banse was named to the Big Ten All-Academic team on three occasions from 2003-05.
Banse is a USATF Level I Certified Coach, as well as a USATF National Level Official, having officiated at the prestigious Drake Relays for several seasons, among numerous other notable competitions.
He is married to Nittany Lion assistant softball coach, Lisa Banse. The couple recently welcomed their first child - Luka Andrew - in November.
