UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - More than 800 alumni, family, and friends attended Penn State's Annual Varsity 'S' Day event held on Sat., Oct. 6 during the Northwestern vs. Penn State football game with more than 400 participating in the letterwinners tunnel during the pre-game festivities.

"We enjoyed ourselves during the event talking to so many alumni and enjoying the good food. I was so excited to be on the field to cheer for the team," said Anne Vidunas-Gladwell (Basketball). "I graduated in '82 and have been a season ticket holder since 2001 and have been to many games. This was the best Homecoming game I can remember, the stadium was electric and we are all so proud of this team and Coach O'Brien."

Prior to the game, returning student-athletes enjoyed a tailgate at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and through its partnership with the Penn State Alumni Association, Varsity 'S' luggage tags were provided to all those in attendance.

During the second half of the game, eight Olympians were honored including Felix Aronovich (Gymnastics, Israel), Dominique Blake (Track & Field, Jamaica), Miles Chamley-Watson (Fencing, United States), Shana Cox (Track & Field, Great Britain), Natalie Dell (Rowing, United States), Daniel Gomez-Tanamachi (Fencing, Mexico), Bobby Lea (Cycling, United States) and Kirsten Nieuwendam (Track & Field, Suriname). All of the Olympians were brought out on to the field to be recognized during the game.

The Olympians' itinerary for the weekend also included photos at Nittany Lion Shrine, and convertible rides during the Homecoming parade. All photos can be found on the Varsity 'S' Club's Facebook page.

In response to another successful and fun Varsity 'S' weekend, Michael Smith (Men's Swimming and Diving, 1996) declared, "This weekend was EXCELLENT!"
