FNC: Penn State Fencing Heads to Regionals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State fencing team will begin its road to the NCAA Championships this weekend, heading to Easton, Pa., to compete in the Mid-Atlantic / Southern Regionals. The competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at Lafayette College.

The Nittany Lions will see action against Drew, Duke, Farleigh-Dickinson, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, North Carolina, Princeton, Stevens, Temple and New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Competing for the men:

Foil: Howie Chan (Walnut, Calif.), Julian Fevry (St. Albans, N.Y.), Mohamed Hassan (Saint Louis, MO) and Andrey Ostatnigrosh (Fresno, Calif.).

Epee: Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.), Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas), Clinton Rodell (Annadale, VA) and Oskar Tang (Gothenburg, Sweden).

Saber: Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.), Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.), Matthew Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.) and Marcel Dolegiewicz (Park Ridge, Ill.).

Competing for the women:



Foil: Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.), Jade Rowland (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and Alissa Gozali (Singapore).

Epee: Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif.), Jessica O’Neil-Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.), Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France), Barbara Vanbenthuysen (Spring, Texas) and Nicolette Vigna (Thornwood, N.Y.).

Saber: Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.), DeAna Oliver (Montclair, N.J.), Teodora Kakhiani (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Karen Chang (Hong Kong, China).

The qualification process for the NCAA Championship will be based off of a combination of the fencers' season record and this Saturday's results. The fencers' season statistics will count towards 40 percent of the qualification, with the final 60 percent coming from the fencers' performance this weekend.
