UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State head men’s and women’s fencing coach Wes Glon has been named Team Captain for the United States National Cadet and Junior World Championship Team. The appointment is the latest in a long line of international coaching assignment’s for the Nittany Lion mentor.
Glon has coached many U.S. national teams, including teams for the Junior and Senior World Championships (1989-1998), the Pan American Games (1991), and the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. In 2013, he was named Team Captain for both the Men’s and Women’s National Teams and led them to become a dominant power house in the fencing world.
“It is always a great honor to represent the country in the international arena,” said Glon. “I look forward to leading the team to what we hope will be yet another successful year.”
The junior and cadet world championships will take place in Verona, Italy on April 1-9. The competition will host over 1250 athletes from all over the globe. As for now, coach Glon’s focus will be on Penn State’s dual meet series this weekend in Durham, NC.
Following this weekend's action, select Penn State fencers will be participating in the Junior Olympics on Friday, Feb.16, and will finish the event on Monday, Feb. 19.
